Injuries appeared minor in Kansas school bus crash

A Kansas school bus was involved in a crash during a routine morning run on the way to an elementary school. Police in North Topeka said the driver of the bus was responsible for the auto accident. None of the 20 children on board the bus appeared to be seriously hurt.

Topeka construction zone death adds to rising Kansas toll

The victim in an early August crash on Interstate 470 in Topeka was a 22-year-old construction worker. KDOT reported that the construction worker's death was the only one in Shawnee County in 2012, the fifth fatality in a county work zone since 2000.

A fire last spring in Scott City took the lives of three young children and a 28-year-old quadriplegic woman. Two of the children who perished in the blaze -- age 6 and 8 -- were daughters of the woman's boyfriend. The disabled woman's 4-year-old son was also killed in the fire.
